FDR famously said we have nothing to fear but fear itself. But FDR didn’t have Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene serving on the Homeland Security Committee. And now, in an apparent attempt to terrify the American people, rumors abound that Marjorie Taylor Greene wants to be former President Trump’s running mate in 2024.
Marjorie Taylor Greene as vice president. The mind reels!
Sources close to her say her VP dream is driving her recent attempts to “rebrand” as someone who can cross the aisle. No, not that aisle! It seems no one can cross that one anymore. Instead, Marjorie wants to show she can work with both “establishment” congressional Republicans (if those still exist) and the extremists with whom she caucuses.
Well, her qualifications are many, at least for the right-wing base that has helped propel the congresswoman to a prominent figure in U.S. politics. After all, she “fights.” She’s a prolific Twitter user, which is where you can find some of her most dubious hits. For instance, Marjorie indicated her interest in executing various Democrats “for treason,” like asking if “we” could hang Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. She also published a “press release” calling for Nancy Pelosi’s removal for treason, saying, “It’s a crime punishable by death is what treason is. Nancy Pelosi is guilty of treason.” She later “liked” a reply saying, “Putting a bullet in Nancy Pelosi’s head would be quicker.”
Before being elected, Marge liked to film herself and her entourage visiting the offices of Democrats like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez or Maxine Waters. There, she would amuse her faithful viewers by shouting through a mail slot pithy zingers such as, “If you want to be a big girl, you need to get rid of your diaper and come out and be able to talk to the American citizens. Instead of having to use a flap, a little flap.” A regular knee-slapper, right? (By the way, one of the people who joined Marjo at AOC’s office took part in the January 6th insurrection.)
Marjorie hasn’t merely harassed other politicians. Before being elected, she’d film herself while she stalked – er, followed – and harassed students who protested gun violence after the Parkland school shooting. She even allegedly kicked one 18-year-old. Speaking of Parkland, Marge has spread conspiracies that says Parkland and other mass shootings, such as Sandy Hook and Las Vegas, are “false flag operations.” She believes Satan is controlling the Catholic Church because of American bishops’ support for migrants. And obviously Trump supporters didn’t attack the Capitol on January 6; it was BLM and Antifa!
Oh! Let’s not forget Marjorie was possibly a QAnon believer, or at best, QAnon-curious. She recently said she “had easily gotten sucked into some things on the internet.”
Maybe her inability to tell fact from fiction is why Marge is an election denier who has been investigated for actively assisting January 6th insurrectionists. Then again, she might simply know what sells with the right-wing base now, and like too many politicians, she’s willing to sacrifice democracy for it. (Although I’m willing to bet the woman who believes in “Pizzagate” is a true believer of The Big Lie.)
It’s easy to dismiss Marjorie as a joke, with her “gazpacho police” malapropisms and wild claims about “space lasers controlled by the Rothschilds.” There have been too many to list here. But make no mistake – Marjorie Taylor Greene is dangerous. Whether she runs for vice president or not, she’s already too close to the levers of power. After being stripped of her first-term committee assignments because she encouraged violence against Democrats and peddled anti-Semitic theories, Marjorie is in a position to do some more serious damage to the country. She’s been assigned to the Accountability & Oversight committee, and even more worrisome, Homeland Security.
Call me an elitist, but shouldn’t we hold our politicians to some sort of standard, like being able to dismiss “information” from handles like @intothematrixxx? In fact, we must hold them to a higher standard. Extremists were once unelectable. In decades past, voters would have stopped loony extremists like Marge before they made it out of the gate. In fact, the parties themselves used to stop such candidates before they made it on the ballot. Once upon a time, just one of Marjorie’s anti-gay, anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim, anti-Catholic, or just completely unhinged comments would have disqualified her. Now she’s one of the most visible leaders in our country.
The Homeland Security Committee is no place for a member who believes 9/11 was an inside job and that American Flight 77 did not hit the Pentagon. The Accountability and Oversight Committee is no place for someone who believes in the “Deep State” and that Trump won in 2020. And the vice presidency is no place for Marjorie Taylor Greene.
